Shaping Sustainability in the City

In Good Company – The Event:

Skanska and the City of London Corporation invited JPA Furniture to present their sustainable innovation at the Supply Chain Innovation Showcase in 2019. Fiona Edwards and Chris Farmer were delighted to attend and present our solutions to eliminate office furniture waste - DODO. We also took the opportunity to launch our #Furniturehero campaign.

We were in good company, alongside Ecopilot who outlined a predictive BMS system, Green D+ (with unique drop in diesel replacement that substantially reduces harmful emissions), Waterblade (with a 75% more efficient way of washing hands and Savotex (with a low cost, low carbon hand drier). What a day.

The Process:

The process was simple - businesses had to submit their innovative products, services or solutions which were either existing in the market or which may still be in development or pilot stages.

The scheme was open to any current or prospective member of Skanska or City of London Corporation’s supply chain in the Facilities management sector who are working to develop and deliver greener or more sustainable products, services or solutions, either independently or in collaboration with other organisations.

Throughout January 2019, the innovations were reviewed and shortlisted by a select panel from Skanska and City of London. Five shortlisted suppliers, including JPA Furniture were then invited to showcase and discuss their solutions with a series of FM clients from a range of sectors within London in February 2019.

What counted as a sustainable innovation?

A sustainable innovation is a product or service with quantifiable benefits that achieves one or more of the following: minimises energy consumption; uses alternative, renewable energy sources; reduces carbon emissions; reduces air pollution; reduces waste; adopts a circular economy approach; reduces water consumption; eliminates the use of hazardous substances; uses less materials; uses more sustainable materials; supports health and/or wellbeing.

To qualify, the supply chain green solution needed to:

· Be a product or process that is directly applicable to the Facilities Management Industry

· Have a strong business case, providing both environmental, economic or social benefits to clients

· Be already on the market, at piloting phase or currently in development

The showcase gave JPA Furniture platform to gain visibility amongst like-minded clients in the Facilities Management industry and promote our innovations which enhance sustainability.
