PHASE ONE PROJECT COMPLETION – £9000 Community Savings

The first part of a JPA building refurbishment project for Redbridge NHS Trust was completed in April, with Phase One furniture clearance and re-homing/recycling of redundant furniture items.

Working with the local community, JPA managed to re-home 95 items across five community organisations and saving the equivalent of £9000 in furniture spend. This has also diverted 3382 kg of furniture from landfill and saved over 2902 CO2e – improving our clients’ environmental and social performance.

As JPA address redundant furniture issues at point of procurement, we are also able to save additional paperwork, purchase orders and clients’ valuable time, streamlining the process and making it easy for them to be sustainable as part of the order process.

ShopMobility Marlowes, Community Action Dacorum and Isobel Hospice have received furniture for re-use alongside Rothamsted Research who have received furniture to help equip a new business start-up hub #furniturehero.

Additional desks and storage have enabled Emmaus to increase office space to continue supporting those who have experienced homelessness by providing them with a home and meaningful work in a community setting.

“The furniture received from Redbridge via JPA furniture has been used to up-grade the offices at Emmaus St Albans and furnish a new Ebay warehouse. The up-grade of the furniture in the offices at Emmaus has allowed staff to work in a more organised way with appropriate storage and ergonomic desks. It has also provided 2 study and training desks for our residents to use.

The remaining storage furniture has been used to furnish our new Ebay warehouse which will allow a functional space for our formerly homeless residents to process, list and dispatch second-hand, donated items on Ebay, generating income to fund our homelessness charity, and training our residents in online sales and warehousing.

This scheme will help us to continue our work with the homeless and has saved valuable funds for re-allocation elsewhere, not to mention reducing furniture landfill. Thank you”
